SINGLE SEASON, SINGLE DISTILLERY This rare whiskey was bottled under the strict tenents of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. Aged in the temperate climate of the Northern California coast, the original distillate was altered only by the addition of pure water from the Russian River Valley aquifer. This is the purest expression of Redwood Empire’s craft.

The Redwood Empire stretches from San Francisco to Humboldt Bay and on to the Oregon border. The region is home to majestic coastal redwoods, some more than 2,000 years old. The name Grizzly Beast is a combination of two trees: The Grizzly Giant, a giant Sequoia located in Yosemite National Park that has over two billion leaves, and the Mattole Beast, a massive 375-foot coastal redwood located in Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

The Gift of Bourbon

I can't go into any detail about the Grizzly Bourbon since it is a gift, but I do hope I'll have the opportunity to have a taste after Christmas. I can say Barrel Tap was first rate with getting back to me when this bourbon was back in stock. From purchase to receiving, all was perfect. I will definitely use Barrel Tap for future, hard to find Bourbons, etc

Peppery on the palate

The first take on the nose is deceiving. A bit like paint thinner initially but then more fruity after a second try. Same deception with the first taste, but less like chemicals. This is a very spice-forward drink but with lots of buttery caramel that follows. It’s a bit short on the finish but has a nice spice finish. Let it air a while and evaluate after two or the tastes, it improves dramatically.
