Buzzard's Roost French Double Oak Bourbon

Straight Bourbon | 50% ABV | 100 Proof | 750mL | USA | Aged 7 Years | French Limousin Oak Finish

Process & Profile

Buzzard's Roost French Double Oak Bourbon brings together seven-year-old bourbon and secondary maturation in French Limousin oak. Selected by Buzzard’s Roost co-founder Jason Brauner, this limited release explores how a second oak treatment can develop the whiskey’s flavor and texture.

For the finishing stage, Buzzard’s Roost uses French oak seasoned for 18 months, with a very light char. The Limousin oak contributes layers of brown sugar, toffee, baking spice, honey, and dried apple, alongside a rounded mouthfeel. The oak’s seasoning period is separate from the bourbon’s seven-year age.

Made from 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley, the bourbon is bottled at 100 proof. Almond butter, raisin, and a hint of sandalwood introduce a palate of rich sweetness and warm spice. The finish gradually becomes drier, leaving light oak and sweet, nutty notes.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Almond butter and a trace of sandalwood, followed by raisin, brown sugar, dried fruit, and baking spice.

  • Palate: Toffee and dark brown sugar with honey, dried apple, allspice, and a subtle leather note.

  • Finish: Rounded at first, then gently drying with light oak and sweet, nutty notes.

How to Enjoy

Start with a neat pour in a tulip-shaped whiskey glass to explore the almond, dried-fruit, and spice aromas. Try a few drops of water and compare how the sweetness and oak character develop, or serve over a large ice cube for gradual dilution.

For cocktails, consider an Old Fashioned with aromatic bitters and an orange twist to complement the bourbon’s toffee and spice notes. An apple tart, roasted almonds, or dark chocolate would make useful pairing options alongside a sipping pour.
