Frank August Case Study: 08 | 8 Year Winter Wheated Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon | 8 Years | 108.8 Proof (54.4% ABV) | 8-Barrel Batch

Frank August Case Study: 08 Winter Wheated Reserve revisits the whiskey lots behind the brand’s first wheated bourbon, Case Study: 05. For its second wheated release, Frank August narrowed the selection to barrels filled with whiskey distilled during the winter. The result is an eight-year Kentucky straight bourbon with a creamy texture, dark caramel and baked cherry on the palate, and a long finish of vanilla custard and toasted oak.

Process & Profile

Frank August assembled eight batches of eight barrels each and bottled the bourbon at barrel strength. Case Study: 08 carries an eight-year age statement and comes in at 108.8 proof, compared with 104.5 proof for Case Study: 05. The whiskey was distilled and aged in Kentucky, then bottled by Frank August in Bardstown.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Baked pear and browned butter open into crème brûlée, toasted pecan, and a touch of cinnamon.

  • Palate: Maple and dark caramel lead into baked cherry and butterscotch. The texture is full and creamy, with a hint of dark chocolate underneath.

  • Finish: Vanilla custard lingers alongside toasted oak and mild baking spice.
