Process & Profile
Joseph Phelps Freestone Quarter Moon Vineyard West Sonoma Coast Estate Grown Pinot Noir is a vineyard-designate wine from the Quarter Moon Vineyard, located approximately seven miles from the Pacific Ocean. The bottle shown is the 2023 vintage, released under the renewed Freestone identity within the Joseph Phelps Vineyards portfolio.
Persistent coastal fog and wind create a long, cool growing season that helps preserve acidity while allowing Pinot Noir grapes to develop slowly. The vineyard’s deep, well-draining Goldridge soils originate from ancient marine sediments and naturally limit vine vigor, supporting concentrated fruit and a distinct expression of place.
Winemaker Justin Ennis follows a minimal-intervention approach intended to let the vineyard, grape variety, clone, and vintage remain clearly expressed. Compared with the estate’s more elegant Pastorale Vineyard Pinot Noir, Quarter Moon represents the darker, more savory, structured, and age-worthy side of West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir.

How to Enjoy
Serve Joseph Phelps Freestone Quarter Moon Vineyard West Sonoma Coast Estate Grown Pinot Noir slightly below room temperature, ideally around 55–60°F. Allowing the wine to breathe in the glass or decanting it for approximately 30 minutes can help reveal its layered fruit, savory character, and firm structure.
